Approximately 150 people came to the Journey Museum Theater for a free screening of the new documentary film "For the Bible Tells Me So" on Saturday evening. The film confronts the Biblical interpretations of the Bible that are used to condemn homosexuality and homosexuals.
After the screening and a short intermission for refreshments and conversation, the majority of the audience stayed for a panel discussion which followed. The panel consisted of Rev. Richard Fisher, United Methodist Church and VP of the South Dakota Association of Christian Churches; Rev. Kathy Munson-Lutes, Rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Rev. Bruce Baum, Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church; Fred Magnavito, Phd Psychologist with the Pennington County Sheriff's office; Carol Butzman, Counselor in private practice in Rapid city; Curtis Price, Board member for the Centers For Equality, Treasurer for Equality South Dakota, State coordinator for Integrity. Yours truly was the moderator for the discussion.
The discussion was passionate and lively. It lasted for an hour and a half.
Once again, on behalf of the Center West, we would like to thank Fred and Sandy Magnavito for donating the film to the Center West; A big thank you to Beth Wojahn for helping to put together the panel for the discussion and to her and Curtis Price for preparing the food for the intermission and to Beth, Curtis and Duane Hosek for donating the food for the event.
Anyone interested is setting a private group showing and discussion of the film should feel free to contact the Center West, 348-3244.
